Awards
The Virginia S. Boyce Service Award is presented from time to time, but not more frequently than on an annual basis, to ophthalmic medical personnel, preferably JCAHPO-certified, who have made outstanding voluntary public service contributions in the assistance of eye care and prevention of vision loss.
Criteria for Selecting Recipients
Any person may nominate candidates for the award, with appropriate documentation included to indicate worthiness for the award. Information must be received by May 1 of each year, with review and selection by a committee of the Foundation each spring. A person may receive only one Virginia S. Boyce Service Award in a lifetime.

Helen Metzler, COA, is a Clinical Research Coordinator at the University of California/Davis. Her passion has always been in the
area of service, both abroad and in the U.S., and she has a deep commitment to international aid. Over the past 11 years, Helen has
participated in 7 medical/optical missions to Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Mexico. On these missions, she interpreted for
medical personnel, conducted eye health screening and education, and dispensed eyeglasses.
